Rosenthal RORO Collection Piggy Bank, Rose Pink

Walking around in the Rose Pink RORO Collection is RORO the pig – how sweet! With its round body, clear nose, and tiny curled tail, designer Sebastian Herkner has created a minimalist pig with just a few details. Available in three sizes, RORO can be a delightful hand charm, a handy piggy bank, or simply a beautiful decorative piece. But RORO has a unique history that almost made architectural waves. Originally a domestic pig at Rosenthal am Rothbühl, architect Walter Gropius was tasked with designing a stable for the adorable creature after losing a bet.

Sebastian Herkner, born in 1981, has quickly risen to fame in the German design scene with his award-winning creations that blend traditional craftsmanship with innovative techniques. After studying product design at HfG Offenbach, he ventured into freelance design in 2006 and has since collaborated with renowned manufacturers like Classicon, Moroso, Gubi, and Pulpo. Additionally, Herkner is involved in interior and exhibition design and serves as the art director for the Czech label Verreum. Some of his notable works include the Collana, Falda, and Domo vase series, the Mitis watch collection, and the Meta wall hooks for Rosenthal. His base of operations is in Offenbach.

Following the lost bet between Walter Gropius and Philip Rosenthal, a stable was designed by Gropius for RORO, featuring a Bauhaus-style barn and a lush meadow for RORO to roam. This drawing served as the inspiration for the Palazzo RORO porcelain decor, created by Ewelina Wisniowska. The design gracefully incorporates elements of the Bauhaus style, with a playful twist on the gold rim. The graphic decor tapers down elegantly, resembling straw bales and wire mesh fences.

Celebrating their 100th anniversary, Rosenthal introduced the "Roro" piggy bank designed by Sebastian Herkner. The design pays homage to the original company mascot, embodying the essence of the beloved porcelain pig. Much like its predecessor, the "Roro" piggy bank captures the charm and character of the iconic Rosenthal pig, offering a whimsical nod to the brand's rich history.
